Did anyone else go through this piece? I believed it offered thorough insight into the game’s creation. While it wasn’t groundbreaking for those tracking the dev, it covered many details about the challenges they faced. The discussion around iilfonic’s assets being mismatched in scale stood out. In short, I’m not overly concerned the game will be left unfinished. This article was an engaging read without significantly shifting my perspective.
I usually steer clear of Kotaku. The headlines seem designed to grab attention, or the material feels a bit extreme just to encourage long comment threads. I don’t like either approach. Also, others in the subforum mentioned that much of what’s shared here is outdated—originating from an ex-employee who had their NDA lifted this year.
I understand that Kotaku (especially its US version) often publishes articles about anime trends, but this isn’t the case here. If it’s solid journalism, the platform doesn’t matter much. The writer makes it clear his sources are anonymous former employees, so you should consider the unreliability of such information. Also, forum posters without accountability can’t be trusted to provide accurate details about these employees’ personal situations or NDAs.
They've also shared multiple of their own pieces in a rather provocative way to try to boost traffic. The reality is different; if the website lacks credibility, I don't matter how solid the reporting is. If I don't believe in the source, one piece won't sway my view on their stance.
It was an incredibly engaging book. The biggest surprise was how much pressure Chris applied to the team.
an earlier conversation with Gabe Newell mentioned that creating Half-Life 1 was far more challenging than making Half-Life 2. The difficulty stemmed from Valve expanding while simultaneously developing a major AAA title, leading to constant changes and rework. Despite the chaos, they managed to organize things effectively and ultimately succeed. I believe the problems with RSI can be linked to the company growing too quickly, causing roles, processes, and culture to lag behind. Given their impressive achievements so far, the technical obstacles they've overcome, and the gameplay demos they've shared, I'm confident they'll deliver a fun experience. My main concern is ensuring it remains enjoyable to play.
I thought the piece offered a balanced perspective and was quite fair. It was engaging to read and convincing despite the sources. Instead of the kind human figures often depicted by CIG and Chris, this story highlights genuine people with their challenges—some struggle greatly, yet still put in their all to try. I also know someone who, after reading this, finally decided for Star Citizen after years of doubt. That’s a positive outcome for me.
