I've been trying to figure out why my connection kept dropping lately, especially on Discord. After checking all the network gear except the modem, I realized the issue might be with the chipset. There seems to be a known fix for this problem, but I don't know how to apply it.

I don't think these chips have a real solution. The available data suggests only limited improvement, and fixing them after installation isn't possible. You might find another modem through your ISP or purchase one separately to replace it.

Puma 6 didn't gain much popularity and several weaknesses remained unaddressed, such as a DoS vulnerability that was straightforward to exploit. I had to install a Puma 6-based modem for years and eventually purchased a separate router, using it as a bridge so the router handled the heavy lifting while the modem functioned merely as a simple conduit.

I've had to swap out numerous modems since the firmware no longer receives support or problems occur. It used to work fine. Unclear what caused it. Currently checking the CM1000 from Netgear—any suggestions?

Consider verifying if your modem supports bridging and, if possible, purchasing a suitable router. I haven’t reviewed other cable-modems since I’ve only used the one I have and no longer need it.

They said they’d fix it over a year ago, but Arris is facing lawsuits now. Even with a solution, you still depend on your ISP to update the firmware—it’s not something you can handle alone. If you need a 32-channel cable modem, consider a Docsis 3.1 model; they’re built with Broadcom chips and don’t have the same issues as Intel ones.
