My prediction is that it relies on the USB connection for access to the fan controller hub, especially for things like the firmware update I mentioned. These are quite costly fans, which suggests they should function properly, though the problems might simply stem from the hardware itself.

It seems likely correct there. When checking the page to update firmware, it advises ensuring the USB is connected, so you're all set. My units weren't cheap, but I'm still paying for them. They worked as expected, quieter than the fans I replaced. I think they’re version 2.0.22. It’s a shame only the fan with the manual update page now is the SL Wireless – the newest fans come with some intriguing limitations. Adding more fans means more USB 2 connections, and most new boards only have two headers. That’s a bit of a detour.

Did you use an older version before? I assume it’s no longer available?
No, you flashed the controller—I doubt you could install an older version there… maybe.
I wouldn’t proceed without checking with Lian LI first.
I don’t see anything here – but you might want to ask them for advice.
You could try the third option listed, which might be useful.

Yeah, before the L-Connect software caused issues now it's the lian-li fan controller hub. My main concern is whether it will function without that USB connection, though I might have to temporarily disconnect it from my computer. It has to wait, but if we've identified the problem, maybe I can try again. Grr why do things always have to be this way?

It seems USB is also utilized for controlling ARGB unless you're solely using the motherboard lighting software. Which fan models are these? Some of mine require direct controller operation, while earlier Uni fans could function independently on the motherboard and bypass the controller. The more lights or screens there are, the greater the power demand becomes. I need a 6-pin PCIe cable to operate them properly... or would it work if the screens don’t consume too much CPU. I’m going to crash soon; it’s almost 2am here.

Thank you for your assistance and understanding. If I weren't a gamer, this would be a small problem. I own the Lian Li UNI FAN SL V2 120 RGB PWM Fan 3 Pack along with two additional UNI FAN SL V2 120 RGB fans.

It's not just a small issue when USB restarts randomly. I’d fix it even if the PC remains idle most days. You only require it for managing ARGB with L Connect 3 or updating the BIOS. If you rely on it for fan control, consider using Fan Control instead.

Fan Control – A specialized tool for precise fan management on Windows
Fan Control is a free application that lets users regulate CPU, GPU, and case fans based on temperature settings.
getfancontrol.com

It worked well until about a week ago. You can transfer control to the motherboard using L Connect.

Regarding ARGB
I have no idea what MSI Mystic Light is. I haven’t tried it. It seems you’d need MSI Centre to install it. So far, among hardware manufacturers, Corsair offers the best lighting options.
L Connect is quite basic, though it’s better than Windows 11’s version.
Gigabytes RGB had me hoping L Connect 3 would perform better.
I wish there was a single software that handled everything... I currently need three RGB programs to keep my PC looking acceptable.

Signal RGB is another option – it recognizes the motherboard and fans.
SignalRGB
Manage and synchronize your RGB devices through one free app. SignalRGB is the only RGB software you’ll ever need.

I attempted to disconnect the USB connection from the fan controller hub this morning, but the fans remained powered on without any light or movement. It looks like I made a bad decision when purchasing these fans.

Did you transfer control to the motherboard in L Connect prior to that? You may want to reach out to Lian LI for assistance. They could help by reflashing the controller or arranging a replacement.

The USB reset issue has been resolved at least. I'm not reaching out to their support since I can't locate the serial number. Additionally, I may keep this message until a new firmware release for this device is available.

I think they might have other supporters too? Mine are connected to my AIO, I couldn't just ignore them until an update.
It seems difficult to locate the serial numbers on the SL fans—just leave the field blank.

likely all their products use the same form, though some may include a serial number
