I'm seeking this advice since purchasing individual 8GB modules is more cost-effective right now. I intend to acquire two and integrate them into a build, aiming for an overclock and a RAM speed of 2666MHz. The recommended product is PNY Performance DDR4 2666MHz Desktop Memory 8GB available at the provided link. This approach would mean using one 8GB stick instead of two paired kits.

Used your Crucial 3466MHz CL16 kit; noticed Amazon offered two 8GB units together for twice the cost of purchasing them individually.

We completed it using 2x8 and 4x8 sheets, and it worked perfectly.

The overclocking was done by adjusting the settings to increase performance beyond the default limits.

XMP should work fine as long as both modules match.

I usually don’t push RAM beyond its maximum speed on my builds—I just grab high-speed modules and use XMP settings because I’m not motivated to do it manually. But once you start overclocking, the pattern changes; it’s like buying both together: you need more power to get better performance.

OP refers to receiving two identical dimmers from two separate kits rather than one kit containing two, usually with unique serial codes.

Usually it functions well. Purchasing the kit ensures it meets specifications. If it fails, you can return it for a replacement or refund. Still, it's likely to operate properly, though no absolute certainty exists.
