It seems you're considering switching your internet service provider or handling the issue yourself. That's a good approach!

How much distance separates you from your internet service provider? I remember being about 6 miles away when I used DSL, but my speed test showed ping between 35 and 40. As @Prastupok mentioned, the actual connection quality can vary based on several factors.

Bandwidth and server location are key factors. Playing Chivalry shows slower speeds when connecting to West US or UK compared to East US.

Your internet speed significantly influences your ping, but only when all your bandwidth is used up. It mainly depends on how far you are from the server and its quality.

You should consider this based on your needs, not just a technical breakdown. Higher bandwidth doesn’t always mean better performance if the network isn’t fast enough for your tasks. Latency matters more than raw speed in many cases.
