A 4790k isn't necessary; it's better to skip it. There aren't any games available yet that let a 4690k fall behind a 4790k. In fact, most benchmarks suggest 5820s and 5960x are close in performance with the Wonder haswell i5 for gaming. Single-core still reigns supreme, and the 4690k remains powerful. But you'll likely need more threads for streaming and other tasks.
To run the game at the lowest configuration, you would have maintained your PS4.
Using default configurations would result in chaotic frame rates. If the 4690k and 970 models aren't delivering PS4 quality, something is off.
My GPU looks good after overclocking, almost hitting a 290x. I usually score around 2600s in Valley when using the best drivers and max settings like antialiasing at 8x. However, the recommended CPU is about a hundred dollars more than my budget model, which made me a bit frustrated. Witcher tends to have stricter spec requirements.
Of course, my aim wasn't just to play at the lowest level. I wanted to test it under maximum settings. I was expecting it to work at high, but unfortunately, my CPU limited me. That's frustrating.
