I have an MSI U180 netbook with 1GB RAM and a 1.6GHz Intel Atom chip. It struggles with Windows 7 Startup, so I’m looking for an OS that can give it a boost. I plan to play retro games and watch movies, so I need something suitable. Thank you!

Certainly Linux distributions can operate on very outdated or low-quality hardware, though I might have misidentified the specific one.

Using a simple Linux distribution like Lubuntu can make a big difference. Remember to stick to your topics!

Use a standard operating system. Obtain an .ISO file, convert it to a CD/DVD or create a bootable USB drive. Start the installation from the media you just made and follow the prompts, mainly selecting "Next".

Lubuntu works well, but make sure you're using a 32-bit version. What games or activities are you planning to enjoy on it?
