Hello, your setup includes an Intel 4690k processor with 4.1 GHz and 980Ti, 16GB RAM. You've upgraded your display to an ASUS VG258 at 144Hz and 1080p. When running games at speeds above 60fps, you notice CPU spikes reaching 100%. Similar problems appear in BFV and GTA V. It seems the issue might be a CPU bottleneck, as on your previous 60Hz monitor it was still handling around 90% load without stuttering.

Your equipment is quite outdated. The CPU will likely slow things down at higher refresh rates. For a more affordable option, consider a R5 3600 paired with a B450 chipset.

yeah, i didnt know how bad it was. I got the monitor second hand so I may just sell it and stick to 60hz for a while as at 60hz the cpu does fine.

You might also maintain performance at 60 frames per second by continuing to play at that setting, especially if you intend to upgrade your hardware later.

I actually didn’t spend much. I got the PC used and upgraded the GPU. Maybe next year or so, but right now I’m running it at 60Hz. If I keep it, I think I can sell the monitor for at least what I paid for it. No big loss at all.
