Are you considering switching to S mode? What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing so?
Hello everyone!
I recently got a new laptop running Windows 11 and am facing some intense frustration with setting it up. This is likely my final Windows purchase. Still, I’m ready to take the challenge—not expecting you to take away all my mistakes.
I stumbled upon an issue with S Mode. I wanted Firefox as my search engine, but the process of downloading it triggered this problem: the app isn’t in the MS Store, so they block it. MS is really pushing this point, emphasizing how crucial S Mode is and warning that opting out means you can never go back!
My thought is that Microsoft/Win seems to prioritize their own ecosystem over my needs. For anyone like me who has to deal with Win 11 setup, I’d really prefer to leave S Mode behind and enjoy a more open experience.
Could you please advise? Is there any reason someone should stay in S Mode when they could simply choose another browser? I’m trying to understand the situation better and appreciate any tips you can share.

S mode is good for educational and work facilities that provide the devices and don't want users screwing around installing a bunch of stuff the company or school doesn't want installed on there, so that they maintain some control over that.
Aside from that, I cannot see any reason why the average person would care, or want to remain, in S mode.
