I own a compact ITX setup that I've been using for gaming in the living room. Recently, I bought an OLED TV and want to make use of HDMI VRR/FreeSync/G-Sync features, but it seems challenging to achieve this with HDMI when using a 1080 or any 10xx card. Right now, my components include:
LG C3 OLED TV
AMD 5600G
EVGA GeForce 1080
Asrock B450 AM4 Mini-itx motherboard
Cooler Master 550W SFX PSU (though I could technically fit a larger ATX PSU, but the CPU-to-PSU clearance is limited)
Silverstone SG13 Case (maximum official GPU length is 10.5", though I might be able to modify the case to accommodate a slightly bigger one)
I don’t play many new games; I mostly enjoy older titles such as Witcher 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Doom Eternal, Wolfenstein, Fallout 3/4/NV, and Battlefield 1. I’m thinking about spending between $300 and $500 on a video card upgrade. I just received a new credit card offering a $200 discount on a $500 purchase, making it feasible to allocate around $500. In my research, the 4070 Super and 7900 GRE appear to be top choices in this price range (though the 7800 XT seems slightly inferior, but worth checking).
Upgrading would require changing the PSU as well. My current 5600G was originally assumed sufficient for light gaming back then, since I didn’t plan on using a dedicated GPU. Now that I’m more interested in gaming, I’m concerned that if I install a 4070 Super or 7900 GRE (and upgrade the PSU), my 5600G might quickly become a performance bottleneck.
I would examine a fresh project, one that could assist you in installing a larger GPU. The current setup, whether vanilla SG13 or the second revision, appears to restrict fitting more than two slot cards. If you choose the RTX4070 Super, it should accommodate multiple slots and fit your existing case:

Regarding the power supply, there are numerous choices for SFX units. I usually opt for a Lian-Li SP850, which comes with a 12VHPWR port by default:

For the processor, I’d prefer the Ryzen 7 5700x rather than an APU.

I still recommend upgrading to a new case, such as the Fractal Ridge;

Thanks, my furniture setup restricts me to the SG13. I recently switched from an old Antec ISK300 which wouldn’t fit anything beyond a half-height video card. It seems there are two slot 7900 GRE and 4070S cards that would work in my case—my worry is whether they’ll be too limited by the CPU, or if it might be better to allocate some of my $300-500 budget to a CPU and a less powerful GPU (and maybe skip the PSU upgrade since some lower-end GPUs are okay with 550 watts). Also, purchasing a case, GPU, CPU, and PSU exceeds my current upgrade budget of $300-500.
