Are you confused, eager, or just having trouble with Fallout 4?
I had never played a Fallout title before yet but always wanted to try, so I downloaded Fallout 4 (PC). I enjoyed Oblivion and Skyrim, making me a big Bethesda fan. Open world games like Witcher 3, GTA, and Skyrim are my favorites, so I thought Fallout would suit me well. Here’s how my first three hours went: long hikes through repetitive, endless wastelands with just a few zombies. After about three hours I had many useless weapons, the only practical one for accuracy seemed to be a pistol, but I couldn’t find any ammo for it. The interface and key bindings were frustrating, making scrolling through weapons a nightmare. The fights felt either too easy or impossible, with nothing in between. In those three hours I completed three quests, all done in 5–10 minutes. After the first hour I wanted to quit, but others kept praising the game, so I tried another two hours. So here’s the question—did I waste my 60€ on the wrong game, or will it improve soon?
I don't believe it's you. If this were an EA title, there would be plenty of criticism, since there really should be. Yet Bethesda seems to escape consequences, even for games worse than those from EA or Ubisoft... Well, maybe I overstated myself. People these days don’t value logical reasoning.
It doesn’t seem like it’s meant for you. You’ll need to gather quite a bit of loot, and most of what you collect is just unnecessary junk. In this game, you usually have to deal with a lot of trash or sell it for something more valuable.
I actually love the game, I have been playing for 10 hours and it's been great. Apart from the performance issues, due to it not supporting SLI. Although, I do feel some aspects of Fallout 3 are better. Like you said, from playing 10 hours, I have been given about 5-6 quests in total and haven't completed all them yet. I have just been exploring the vast wasteland. "Pretty long hikes, through endless wasteland? - There isn't any wasteland, you will always find a building to explore, where you atleast have something interesting to do. Bethesda don't have the best story telling skills though, Fallout 3 was about finding Son finding Dad. Fallout 4 is about Dad finding Son. P.S You don't have to walk everywhere, you can always fast travel to places you have already discovered.
It doesn't discourage anyone for missing out on a game; opinions vary, and I really like this title but believe it's a bit overhyped. My favorite win is still Witcher 3.
