Are we expecting updated boards for Rocket Lake? It seems Rocket Lake is expected to back PCIe 4.0.
According to the article, recent Z490 Gigabyte boards support PCIe 4.0, while Asus boards appear to have limited or no PCIe 4.0 compatibility. It seems Asus may not be addressing this issue, suggesting they likely don’t offer it. There’s uncertainty about whether new boards for Rocket Lake will be released.
It's common for each latest upgrade to include a new chipset. However, most Z490 boards function as Gen 4 compatible. Still, generally, each new CPU release typically brings a fresh chipset.
Thanks for your reply! It’s really helpful. I’m focusing on the second-hand market for my PC build. I’m a bit concerned about finding the right motherboard. I already have some DDR4 RAM and am hoping to get one of the newer Asus boards. I’ve heard Alder Lake might support DDR5, so I’m likely to look for a 11900K once it’s released.
We actually have no information about them. You might want to wait and look it up yourself.
It's unclear why PCIe 4.0 matters if you're using a 10900k, but still worth checking compatibility.
It seems like you're planning to extend your gaming setup with older hardware. You noticed DDR3 RAM was scarce when you needed it, so you went ahead and bought faster DDR4 options before DDR5 arrived. You had a chance to secure a decent motherboard for your 4790k, but found limited choices. Luckily, you managed to get an Asus Z97-WS board and an MSI MPower Max AC (Z97) from eBay, though those were hard to come by at the time.
I plan to purchase the 11900k after Alder Lake's launch. Sorry for the mix-up earlier. :0) I’ll adjust my approach.
Also, I tend to buy components in stages, usually from the used side.
