Halo 1 Custom Edition works well on PC, though modded servers often cause issues. BF 1942 performs especially nicely with its two expansions. I can play both games smoothly on any computer, including my Windows ME PIII desktop, and they should run without trouble on a laptop.

OP didn't mention team-based games. You can play them solo and still have fun. Communication isn't always needed when playing with random players; most people just use pings to chat. Plus, it's one of the biggest e-sports events, making it perfect for competition. Also, it works on a toaster!

I enjoy playing alone without any issues. I even told teammates to 'get f*** you' when they were defeated in one game, and I was the only one left—being a sniper comes with advantages.
