Do you know if there are any CPU founders open to hosting tours or visits in Europe? I’m interested in seeing one, perhaps for research. I’ve been to Bosch and Kumak recently, so I was curious if there are companies that manufacture CPUs or PCBs.
It's unlikely they would allow anyone to witness such a large-scale project without proper oversight.
I don't believe there are many major fabrication facilities in Europe either. I'm aware of several in my neighborhood, but they operate quietly, which is understandable. Awareness is limited unless you're part of the industry or conducting research. You'd have a better chance of touring them if you were pursuing hardware development education, like fab design.
Thanks for the updates. I typically contact my boss for these arrangements. My company provided me with a Dell pass to explore their facilities since we're gold partners. They mentioned available tours but required specific certifications and restricted access to certain locations. I plan to visit the Aruba data center soon. Appreciate your help, FR4.
Foundries stand apart from typical manufacturing sites due to their stringent environmental controls. Even minor contamination or vibrations can lead to significant financial losses. Beyond that, they represent a remarkable feat of human innovation on Earth—visiting or working there can directly affect operations. Compare this to a car plant, where movement is generally safe as long as you stay outside restricted areas.
