I understand Lenovo sells them, though I can’t locate them anymore. They seem to cost more for the battery than the laptop originally was. I bought a used laptop 2-3 years ago for under $100. Recently, both the internal and external batteries were swollen, so I’m considering replacing at least the internal one if not both:

The internal battery is labeled "01AV489" and the external "01AV424", though there are many compatible models.

Lenovo still has them, but the batteries are more expensive than the laptop price if they’re available. Amazon also carries them, but most listings appear to be from unknown sellers with unclear names and poor reviews—many say the batteries failed after a few months or didn’t work at all. Batteries Plus was not an option, Microcenter only had some models for Thinkpad except certain ones, and CPR mentioned they’d charge more because they’d install it themselves. CDW offered a cheaper choice around $65, but the packaging looked different from my battery, raising concerns about being a low-quality clone.

Some people claim refurbished batteries on eBay might work, but this could be risky if not done properly. Are there any reliable sellers who handle this correctly? Or should I avoid paying extra for the battery?

If you have any other questions about your choices, feel free to ask.

I noticed these two ads; one is about a replacement notebook battery for a Lenovo ThinkPad T480, and another is a general listing for laptop batteries. It seems you're looking for affordable options but are unsure about their legitimacy. You mentioned finding real batteries at lower prices, which is tricky. If the laptop isn’t essential, consider refurbished ones, or if it’s not crucial to your daily use, skip buying the laptop and opt for a power adapter instead.

Uncertain if the 14" versions were as common as the 15" models from the older T series. Everyone shifted to the carbon line when they needed a smaller size.
Still, considering the low price of the laptop, why does the battery quality matter? How long do you think it will last? A basic battery should be enough.
Does it carry them? Or at least has an affiliate?

I'm not insisting it has to be inexpensive; in fact, the ones on Amazon seemed oddly affordable. Still, it seems unreasonable to charge more for the battery than the laptop itself costs. That applies specifically to the T480 models.
