Recently I've been considering upgrading to a DDR5 setup, and I discovered a solid offer on Lexar Ares RGB RAM (2x16GB, CL30 and 6400MHz) for just 110 euros during a sale. Is this a reputable brand and do they have a good track record? I've been using G.Skill RAM for about five years and am very satisfied, but I'm familiar with brands like Corsair, Kingston, G.Skill, etc. I haven't heard of Lexar before. Is the quality and reliability of this product something to consider?

They're a trusted company. When it comes to RAM, branding isn't very important. What truly counts is the manufacturer of the actual chips that are soldered onto the module. It's a bit like graphics cards—what matters most is the GPU, produced by AMD or Nvidia, with the AIB partner handling installation so it meets performance goals. RAM works in a similar way.

I recently purchased a 2x16GB DDR4 3200 kit from them for my mother's PC. I believe the manufacturer is trustworthy, or at least reasonably dependable. They likely fall between Kingston and brands like TeamGroup or Adata.

They were previously controlled by Micron and mainly relied on Micron memory/flash, which seemed quite dependable back then. Now they're managed by a Chinese firm and frequently incorporate components from China (such as YMTC flash), raising concerns about future reliability.

Are you considering Intel or AMD? I’d really prefer G. Skill—it’s reliable and I’ve worked with it extensively. Lexar is a Tier 2 brand; they might use similar components as others, but there are ways to cut costs further.

Occasionally you might discover comparable options, which could be more or less effective.

How much does it cost? In the US, it’s under $90.

My observations indicate it works well, but costs are lower due to factors beyond just brand reputation. It’s normal to see discounts on this product (not every premium brand is that cheap). If you’re patient with upgrades, you might save money and get a higher-quality option such as GS or Crucial.
