When I open a game, it begins at 144hz but after roughly five seconds it drops to 60hz as shown by various FPS monitors. This issue occurs across all my games. The display settings are set to 4k at 144hz, and the Nvidia configurations seem proper. Any suggestions?

Tell me about your monitor brand and model. Also, provide a detailed list of its specifications, paying close attention to the GPU details. Your monitor's refresh rate (Hz) differs from your game frame rate (fps), which can be confusing. A 144 Hz display might not match your computer's capability, leading to lower visible fps in game overlays. However, with a 60 Hz monitor and V-sync active, you won't exceed 60 fps.

144fps at 4k demands a powerful machine for most titles. What options do you have?

Using a certified 2.1 cable, the display is correctly receiving a 4k 144hz signal from Windows, yet during gameplay it only shows 60hz in the FPS counters.

Certain games are restricted to 60 FPS, but newer titles may allow higher performance if you adjust the advanced settings, as some are set to 60 by default.

OP was testing an USB 4.0 external enclosure with RTX 3060 Ti. Question - Steam streaming problems? Experiencing poor quality when streaming between two devices (both wired). Updated router, switches, and NICs from 1gbps to 2.5gbps, but issues persist. Task manager shows only 10mbps usage out of 2.5gbps! How can I improve... forums.

Ah man, sounds frustrating. Are there V- or G-Sync problems? Then, cables, preferably compatible with 144Hz, basic but sometimes worth checking. Driver issues? Have you tried reinstalling or rolling back your graphics drivers? Lastly, try using a single display. After checking and testing all of these, you might be able to identify the problem. 144hz requires frequent refreshing when I first used it.
