April Update for Windows 10 on Gigabyte Z270X K5 Crashing & Stability improvements included
I discovered this recently and had a similar problem myself. I wanted to seek advice from the community, but ultimately I’m stuck with my Windows 10 gaming PC running the April update. Games and apps freeze, crashing to a static screen or black before ending. Microsoft claims it’s not their issue, and the system builder hasn’t handled the April update before. Any thoughts or assistance would be very much appreciated. For reference, I’ve attached this log for others who might help.
It might be wise to download and install the latest graphics drivers. This issue often happens when a Windows update causes faulty driver files.
I previously attempted to uninstall the GPU driver using DDU, realizing my own experience with that method. When trying the Device Manager rollback, it also failed. As a final option, I rolled back from the April update, but the process indicated a missing or unavailable required file, making further steps impossible.
You're noticing your Nvidia drivers are outdated. Upgrade to the newest version (link provided). When installing, choose Advanced settings, install only Nvidia graphics drivers and HD Audio sound chip. Avoid 3D Vision or GeForce Experience. Select a clean installation to restart your PC afterward. After completion, restart again and test performance.
I reviewed the link again and your suggestions haven’t made any impact. Before proceeding, I confirmed through the Nvidia control panel that version 397.65 was already installed. The problem remains unchanged.
You chose to either push the Windows 10 update manually using the Media Creation tool, request assistance downloading it, or simply let the system check for updates automatically.
Just to verify the GPU issue, do you experience the same problem with Intel integrated graphics or another GPU? I’m aware that Nvidia 10 series cards, like the 1060, often face challenges after this update. It seems most Windows Insiders don’t have it, though Nvidia is working on fixes.
I lack a SLI configuration; the system builder blocked integrated graphics in BIOS and secured it. It's unclear if the problem stems from hardware, especially since I didn't encounter this before the April release.
