Applying Windows 10 version 1709 with 12GB of unused storage.
Hey there! I just installed the latest feature update and noticed some driver problems. After setting it up, 12GB of space disappeared without explanation. When I reached out to Microsoft support, they said the update only added 5-6GB and insisted it was bloatware, even though I hadn’t installed anything. Have others experienced similar issues? I’ve tried storage tools but got no results, and I’m starting to think about a full Windows reinstall.
Consider this: after the recent update a few days back, I found myself with roughly 12 or 13 gigabytes of unused space. I couldn't determine its purpose, so I turned to the free Partition Assistant tool and created a partition using NTFS formatting. Now it remains untouched, gathering dust since I haven't accessed it. Maybe it was megabytes instead of gigabytes? Ah, what a surprise! It's getting late in California.
Ah I see, well thanks for the reply man. I'm just hoping someone else on here has something similar so we could work together to fix it.
After the latest update, Windows retains old files from the prior installation in a directory named Windows.old within your installation area. This allows you to roll back if issues arise post-update. You can revert up to 30 days following the update, which seems to be the intended solution. Look for this folder in the OS partition.
They save a precise copy of the prior version for a month in the Windows.old directory. Execute cleanmgr.exe, choose the choice to remove system files and verify previous Windows setups.
