I purchased a used Ryzen 7 2700X last week and spent some time opening the box to check what was inside. In short, a few pins (about three) sank into old thermal paste applied by the previous seller, and I had no idea how to fix them. I’m really worried those pins might bend if I try to clean them.
The thermal paste is insulating, allowing you to reinsert it. If it were covering your CPU pins, it might stop them from connecting properly and cause the processor to fail. For safety, you can clean the pins, but don't rely solely on this image. Please handle the pins gently.
I’m a bit disappointed since I waited over a week before getting this item, then I need another week just to order online. That’s a huge waste. Still, I messaged the seller who said he used the CPU in that area for two months because he was worried about handling the pins. I’ll take it safe and let time figure things out.
