I haven't heard this before! - but my daughter mentioned at her school they prefer using Apple devices like Macs, iPhones, and iPads because they consume more bandwidth on the network than other options. This is causing the Wi-Fi to slow down? Is that accurate? - if so, why does it happen? - and if not, why didn't I know about this? (I work at another school—teaching and IT myself)

Only one per device? Unlikely. Likely because the children who own them understand many more ways to use them, which means they're consuming more data.

It relies on how the individual employs the gadget. Updates aren't automatic—apps and the operating system only change with permission. An Android or Fire tablet near an iPad would behave similarly, just occasionally syncing with a time server.

Budget reductions are happening at school! What's going on with the students selling their devices and switching to Dell?

I'm from Denmark, and at this school they provide you with your own device. (Just the two IT staff members—acting as 'window-guys'—or that's all I understand about their reasoning)

If she's launching a 10mb site it should appear on other platforms too. Yes, when the device auto-updates, background downloads happen. Yes, lower compression and higher resolutions in an app like video chat can affect performance. Slower Wi-Fi might be due to: - Router distance from the device. Greater distance reduces bandwidth. Solutions: use a Wi-Fi repeater or upgrade to a better router. - Too many devices connected at once; a basic router may only support 5-10 simultaneously. Fix: install a new router that acts as a slave with a different Wi-Fi ID. - The main school router is overloaded.

Refers to reducing funds because the school's internet service is poor.

Apple gadgets connecting to one another, possibly using Bonjour, could potentially strain school Wi-Fi networks.

If it's set up properly, I would anticipate that device-to-device communication is turned off!
