This updated smart app works well with a fresh Windows 11 setup. It’s disappointing that it can’t be activated without an install, but I see the reason behind Microsoft’s decision—it really boosts security and blocks most malware, even though they’ve discovered ways to bypass antivirus protections.

It prevents most non-approved applications, essentially. Extremely strict. The main reason for enabling it during a fresh installation is to maintain a clean system. This is ideal for IT professionals needing an open platform for employees while allowing only trusted software to operate. It's also beneficial for users like young children or parents who may not fully understand system management. Another related setting restricts the system to only Store-approved applications and pre-installed apps. This feature can be activated anytime. You can add all your approved apps, then restrict access. Users will be limited to installing from the Store, using or updating existing apps, but not downloading from third-party sources (such as Chrome). The drawback here is that if a malicious file like virus.exe was previously installed, it could still execute after the system is locked.
