This setup is about using Thunderbolt passthrough to send displayport signals through your Thunderbolt port. It won't work as a capture device during benchmarking; you'll need another PC to record data without impacting performance. You can simply log values, capture samples, and run them in the background while showing numbers. AMD GPUs also have their own "Shadowplay" feature in Radeon software, but it's not very useful.

Only enhances the TB port for video display. It doesn't replace a capture card. With several PCs—one for testing and another for capturing—it's the optimal approach. If purchasing a capture card isn't desired, you can use a frametime plotting tool to analyze data through graphs instead.

Usually not required. Capture cards allow passing unless you're using low-cost models.
