Installing the latest Aorus NvMe Gen4 1TB M.2 SSD on the Aorus Z390 Extreme Water Force board is straightforward. You can proceed with or without the heat sink cover depending on your preference. Removing the heat sink cover from the M.2 drive does not impact the thermal performance, so you have flexibility there. For best results, consider using the official AIO monoblock heatsink provided with the Aorus Z390 Xterme Water Force motherboard.

I see this board and understand you’ll need to remove the block to use it properly. The black section can be taken off, revealing the exposed M.2 slot. This changes the look a bit, but you can still connect the M.2 drive using the included block. Your choice is yours, though inserting a Gen4 PCIe device into a Gen3 slot won’t work. I’m checking to see if I can find out which port has the most PCIe lanes available.
