I observed this before often with the Aorus B550 Elite V2. The NVMe heatsink doesn’t fully contact the SSD due to a thin factory thermal pad. I measured it and found it was about 1mm thick. Should I add a single 2mm pad or just place a 1mm one on top? Anyone know the proper gap or thickness needed for the pad to reach the SSD surface? I have a 2mm pad available, and I could also reuse a 1.5mm pad from an unused enclosure. The SSD is a WD SN770, and it’s the original heatsink.

Tried both 1.5mm and 2mm pads after removing the old stock thermal pad (0.75mm). Outcomes: Heat levels matched in both pads. The 2.0mm was thicker and applied more pressure during installation. The 1.5mm performed well with consistent temperatures. SSD temps dropped below 45°C when under load from 55-58°C, and settled to 35°C at idle from 40-42°C. If you have a Gigabyte board facing similar problems, consider the 1.5mm pads.
