i acquired this laptop roughly five months ago as a replacement for my previous machine. because of long-term needs, i wanted a device capable of matching the performance of my tower. initially it worked well but has steadily slowed down now, barely handling games or software at all. i've attempted various solutions without success. rust, the benchmark tool i rely on, no longer manages high settings smoothly—failing to reach 90+ fps and dropping to just 30fps minimum. it also causes constant stutters. it seems ram isn't the issue either, since a friend with an 8GB system runs fine despite her requirements. now i'm left wondering if switching to windows 10 or using atlasos will be necessary. unfortunately, i can't abandon windows, as much of my workflow depends on it. i don’t want to ask for help right now, but i’m really near the end of my options. if this thread feels too much, just close it out—i thought I should have asked before starting the OS swap process, which could temporarily halt my use of the computer. here are my current details: cpu: Intel Core i7-12700H, gpu: NVidia GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop (GA104M), motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus 17 XE5, power supply: 240W, ram: 8GB (2x DDR5-4800 @2400MHz), storage: Gigabyte AG470S1TB-SI B10 (1TB NVMe), psu: 240W.

Your temperatures tend to be quite high. Many current laptops rely on liquid metal for the CPU and sometimes the GPU. Occasionally, this can corrode in specific areas, causing certain cores to overheat more than others. To prevent overheating, these cores need to reduce their speed significantly, which lowers overall performance. The issue is usually simple—just remove the cooling fins and redistribute the liquid metal. Additionally, using a solid SSD or a fully enclosed storage drive can help improve responsiveness.

my temperatures are normal across all programs I've tested. I'm considering opening the device to verify, as I recall it usually stays between 50-60°C under load—possibly an inaccurate assumption. This could be related to how new the laptop is, rather than its age, especially since my SSD holds around 200GB and I mostly offload non-critical files. Not much of my game data is stored on it, except for some PvP titles like Rust and CSGO. I might focus more on cooling solutions. Also, I shared a screenshot of my system during gameplay on Imgur.

I didn't catch the link, appreciate the notice! It seems only your e-cores are at full capacity while your p-cores aren't using much. Maybe Windows mistakenly identified Rust as needing to run on the e-cores. I'd consider installing Process Lasso—the free version works fine and supports what you're aiming for. Then set up Rust with a "permanent" CPU affinity for the P-cores, keeping it active while Process Lasso is running. This might resolve the problem.
