Any signs so far of higher GPU costs and limited availability?
Any signs so far of higher GPU costs and limited availability?
It has been discussed on numerous tech platforms that GPUs may follow the trend of RAM and experience a significant price increase due to AI. Something worth keeping an eye on.
I placed an order for a RTX 5060 Ti on Jan 2. There were several delays because of stock shortages, but I expect to receive it by Jan 23. The price stayed the same. The main issue was the limited availability.
I believe both AMD and NV planned to raise prices at the end of the month, with NV reducing production of certain models. I recently purchased a 9070XT. Even without another major RAM price jump, I don’t think GPUs will drop in price. I’m keeping my 7800XT for a while due to this.
All prices have risen since late December or early January. The lower end shows a gain of around $30 to $50+, while the higher end is now $70 to $100+. Most RX 9070 XT models are now listed at $700 or more, compared to $600 in December. The RTX 5070 TI has increased from $750 to over $830. For those intending to use the GPU for several years, the additional expense is relatively small, and selling the current unit can help cover the upgrade costs.
It seems the situation has already occurred in the US, which likely means it's already happened or will happen soon in the UK. I'm glad I bought a card now. My card cost £670, but I can recover about two-thirds of that right away on the 7800xt, or possibly even more if prices keep going up. I'll keep it for a while.
AMD graphics cards have experienced a notable rise in value recently. nVidia cards remain relatively stable, though the 5070, 5070 Ti, and 5080 models have all seen consistent price hikes over the last month. The 5090 model hasn't followed this trend, but its prices were already consistently above the manufacturer's suggested price.
Several discussions in this thread mention supply issues, while others highlight global shortages and nVidia's anticipated decrease in production capacity. These factors are expected to drive prices higher as availability diminishes.
The scalpers are gone too. EBay listings are $300.00 above the recommended prices.
Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5070 Ti WINDFORCE OC SFF 16G is priced at $1018.00 on Amazon and $1399.00 on eBay.
Checked out. I recently purchased a Gigabyte GeForce GTX GV-N1080G1 for gaming, replacing it on Friday, December 2016, at $692.00.
The price of my 9070XT (Gigabyte Elite) increased by £60 the following day I purchased it.
