Yes, many people use them. For free options, I suggest exploring open-source alternatives. Avast works well but can slow down your PC—consider lighter alternatives if performance matters.

As long as I have access to my backdoors, you'll be secure. No one will ever notice me using AVG.

I strongly suggest choosing Bit Defender instead of other options like Malwarebytes. From what I understand, Malwarebytes doesn’t offer real-time defense unlike more comprehensive alternatives. Personally, I rely on a paid Bit Defender endpoint. The free version still delivers solid protection and is very lightweight in my opinion. I previously used Avast, but it was too demanding on system resources when I was playing games.

If you installed the browser extension, I recommend removing it. For me, the endpoint version is very minimal and I believe the free version works just as well, although I haven’t used it before. Here’s what it looks like. With this tool, I can run a complete virus scan without affecting my device while gaming or using apps.
