In short, Launchy is starting to feel outdated, especially on Windows 10, and I'm looking for a faster alternative. So far, Wox and Keypirinha have been tried, but both have slow startup times. When I press alt+space it launches immediately, while the others always take a moment longer, causing me to type too fast and lose my place.
I don't rely on Launchy for locating documents (though I partially do with Everything; in Launchy I use "find [tab] file" to search across everything for "file"). I mainly use Launchy to start programs and as a fast calculator—just pressing Tab Alt + Space lets me type simple math without opening the Calculator app each time.
I didn’t see any delay when launching Wox; it’s just pressing alt+space and it appears before the keys settle. The Everything integration also helps locate documents even when you’re not actively searching.
I'll give Wox another try—maybe they've made updates since my last use. Though Everything integration isn't crucial, it's still helpful (you can get it to work with Launchy). EDIT: They've definitely improved it, so I should have given it another shot instead of ignoring it. Thanks!
It's great to know Wox is among the initial software I set up on my Windows systems, especially since I often switch between different applications.
