Another choice for GTA 5 performance settings
Hey, Yes, I know. Another GTA 5 post but it's not about bugs and issues. Does anyone know what tanks the performance significantly? As an example, in Dying Light is was the distance slider that was affecting the performance. I have the game running at average 50 FPS on high/very high but I want to turn some options down to get a locked 60 FPS all the time. I have AA off because I'm on a 4K monitor. Edit: TB just released a video explaining the performance.
The most important factor is texture quality. The gap between medium-high and extra settings is roughly 1GB per step. Population variety consumes a lot of memory, so it’s best to keep it or reduce it if possible. Shadows also impact performance noticeably. There’s a video online comparing shadow sharpness versus speed—even at lower settings they still look great.
Use ultra grass at a maximum setting to avoid performance loss. High graphics options may boost visuals but often reduce frame rates. Balance is key for smooth gameplay.
opt for a higher configuration instead, but achieve two 980s with SLI. Then join the group!
I found it funny. I'm actually using 1440p instead of 4k. My 770 still gives me smooth frame rates and decent performance at that resolution, especially in medium. I still believe visual improvements at 1440p are worth it over 4k medium. Have you seen how some textures look poor in 4k? Imported characters from the console versions often appear bad—like they were originally at 480p before being upscaled to 1080p, so at 4k they just look like black smudges.
I haven't tested it yet—some elements in 4K appear great while others don’t. The outfit stands out, but I’ll experiment with adjustments. I’ll also check the tattoos to be sure.
