Another "Are my delid temps normal" post.
In my situation, I'm using an 8700K that I delidded with Conductonaut (leaving a dark residue on the heat spreader). I'm cooling it with an H110i and running Kryonaut between the CPU and the block. I've been using the spread method. I was able to reach 5.2GHz quite easily. The VCore shows 1.39V. However, when I run Prime95 (without AVX), it instantly drops to 84C while the coolant is still around 35C. It stabilizes near 86C, which seems excessively hot for me, though it's a stress test and doesn't usually behave this way. In typical workloads, it stays around 45C-50C and then spikes to 70C, which worries me.
It appears that many people experience about 55C maximum on Prime95 in similar conditions. (One user reported 1.4v 5.3GHz with a max of 57C. I find it hard to accept.)
My room temperature is around 27C, but the fact that the CPU can jump so quickly regardless of coolant temperature suggests something might be wrong with contact. I usually overclock and modify extensively, so this new water cooling and Coffee Lake setup are unfamiliar. Should I lower my clocks to stay within a comfortable range, or does this seem unusually hot? A dual 140mm RAD might help keep it under 70C without the water heating much.
Reduced the clock speed to 5.0GHz and adjusted the Vcore Offset to -20mV. Executed Prime95 Small FFT once more.
HWInfo indicated a VID voltage of 1.4v, suggesting efforts are being made to maintain that level. However, my peak core reached 83C. These aren't running at full fan speed.
