Thanks for backing the preorder BS that led to a lot of incomplete games. Great!
I think it's excellent. There are some bits that I'm not keen on, like the addition of gadgets instead of more inventive parkour techniques. It still feels very much like a Mirror's Edge game though. I absolutely love the city design and art style, as with the first game but scaled up 5x. One of my biggest gripes with the first game, which was the armed combat was addressed well by just completely removing the ability to use guns. I always felt like the fight sequences in the first game completely killed the momentum. The game is very repetitive, but I kind of expected that. The story is somewhat predictable, but is left open to a sequel (I really hope they make one, but reviews and sales may not let that happen). Despite that, I still love the game, as the running and city design is what I really bought the game for. Some of the parkour is a bit more simplified, but there's still a good learning curve to get to the point where you can keep up momentum all the time, as well as finding alternate routes. I have a video running from one side of the city to the other if you want to check it out. Gives a pretty good idea of the city design, running mechanics and size of the map. I thought I'd not that the premise and setting of both Fallout and Mass Effect both intrigue me, but I get very bored playing the games. One of the only parts of Mass Effect that I enjoyed was reading the descriptions of different planets in different systems. I'd read info on all the planets before going to the one I had to visit.
You recently purchased it for six dollars, probably thinking it was a joke.
I'm really excited about ME Andromeda, especially the first three games—I hope this one lives up to or even surpasses them. I also enjoy Catalyst, where I love running around the city trying to beat the time I set on the dashes; I got into the top 1% in some of them and earned three stars all around. The story was a bit average though... But that moment at the top of the crane looking down really shook me up. Epic:
For me, the initial game was genuinely remarkable. The first flashback after discovering the first artifact, then meeting the reaper through their hologram—those moments remain etched in my memory. Although the game had some rough edges, its narrative and atmosphere captivated me. The beginning of the second act was outstanding, with excellent character growth and loyalty missions that enhanced the experience despite a slight departure from RPG conventions. The story progression and side content like the genophage were impressive. The third installment was a cover shooter that let me down quite a bit. The ending didn’t bother me as much because it removed most of the RPG aspects I valued. Hope Andromeda might bring back some of the RPG elements from the first two, reviving the storytelling that made the series special. Since I deeply cherish this sci-fi series, I’ll hold off on purchasing until I can see how the developers are shaping its future. Nier’s timing gives me a chance to wait and understand where it’s headed.
Mass Effect stands out to me in a unique way. ME1 was my go-to and helped me get back into gaming after a long break. ME2 seemed like just the beginning of a bigger story, but I didn’t find it satisfying. The characters felt like clichés—cooler ones appeared late on, or you struggled to connect with them. ME3 offered solid gameplay, though it still felt like a typical third-person shooter compared to what was coming. For Andromeda, I’m not swayed by reviews or hype; I’ll wait until the price drops below $30 before buying.
It was amazing to understand it wasn't a vessel but a living entity you were interacting with. This was the highlight of the series for me.
