Hi there! A few hours ago I was updating some apps from the Google Play Store on my Samsung S3 Neo (Android 4.4.2), which I usually do every weekend. (I don’t like automatic updates on phones.) Once everything was done, I began browsing the web and watching YouTube as I normally do. But when I tried to close apps by holding down the home button to access my recent apps menu, an error appeared. It says "The process com.android.systemui stopped working". After that, every time I try to open the recent apps screen, it shows a background for a second before closing me at the lock screen. I tried cleaning the cache partition, uninstalling third-party apps, and even reinstalling or rooting my phone, but nothing worked. If you need more guidance, just let me know! Your help means a lot.

Hello, Cedi. The same issue occurred to me earlier today. On the tray I noticed some apps updating automatically overnight, though I didn’t verify which ones. It’s likely they installed something that caused the system to become corrupted. After performing a full factory reset following a backup, the problem persists. Could you share more details? Once the cache was cleared in the boot menu, a brief “error” tag appeared near the green Android icon after rebooting. I’m frustrated about this situation. If anyone has any suggestions or solutions, please let me know. Thank you.

Same situation happened to me too. I didn’t realize it mattered much, so I just overlooked it. I believe the best approach is to wait and observe how the upcoming app updates affect things... But this brings me some reassurance. It indicates that the issue likely comes from an app and should eventually be resolved.

I tried resetting the factory settings before, it fixed things for a while, but now it’s occurring again.

Hey everyone! The issue turned out to be the latest Google App update. Simply tap "Uninstall" in the Playstore, and it will restore the app to its original settings. You should be able to access your "recent apps" just like before. Thanks for all the feedback!

I just wanted to praise your work on the research. My dad's phone (a Galaxy S 3 Neo with Android 4.4.2) was having issues with the crash in com.android.systemui. Removing updates for the "Google" app fixed it, which saved me a lot of time!

Thank you for sharing. Removing the Google app also resolved the issue on a Samsung S4 Mini using Android 4.4.2, especially when the center button was pressed to view active tasks.

There was a problem, but fixing it might involve removing the Google app. It could also help to clear the cache partition. I discovered a helpful tutorial recommending alternative solutions for the com.android.systemui issue.
