Android security bug lets your camera take and upload pics without you knowing
A researcher discovered a vulnerability in Android that lets certain apps secretly capture photos and send them to remote servers without any user consent. Former Google staff member Szymon Sidor identified this issue, noting that many apps on the Play store could take pictures covertly. He pointed out that while Android requires a preview for photo capture, there’s no size limit, making it easy to overlook small previews. The app also gathered additional data like battery status and location. Sidor demonstrated the flaw in a video and urged Android developers to prioritize user privacy. Recent updates from Google aim to strengthen security by continuously monitoring apps and preventing them from being compromised by malware.
