Hey there, so I’ve been in the tech world a while but haven’t really dived into overclocking before. From what I understand, if you don’t need it, why would you go through all that hassle with your parts? Now, I’m pretty sure my CPU is holding me back on my i7-3770k, RTX2080ti, and PCIe M.2 drives with 16GB RAM and a Win 10 Pro setup. I’m wondering if, after a stable 4.6 GHz overclock, my frequencies are still lagging behind newer chips like the i7-7700k at their base speeds? Are my performance numbers still lower than those newer models in terms of actual speed? Plus, I’ve noticed in Task Manager that it still claims boosts even when I’m gaming or using GSync at 1440p. Does this mean the boost is just single-core only? Even with this configuration, I still see some stuttering on my monitor during games like Fallen Order, GTA V, or BeatSabre. I’m holding off on swapping the motherboard or CPU until I hear from Linus about the OPTICAL THUNDERBOLT 3 cable upgrade—he’s working on it. Your processor has limited cache and lower IPC. Consider getting a Ryzen 5 3600 for that GPU. That seems surprising. You might be lucky with the CPU, or it could just be a mistake. Task manager isn't ideal for measuring CPU speed. It depends on factors like clock speeds, and Intel hasn't improved much. AMD offers comparable performance but with slower clocks, which is mainly because of IPC (instructions per clock). A newer Intel chip will likely outperform older Intel models due to better IPC.
Modern processors offer more cores, threads, and improved efficiency.
