This concerns my motherboard and CPU setup. I'm using an Asus Prime z390 P chipset with an i5 9600K processor running stock settings. After launching Prime95, Small FFT, and experiencing rounding errors, I adjusted the Vcore in BIOS. Initially it worked, but later HWMonitor showed throttling to 3.7GHz and a base boost of 4.3GHz with temps capped at 70°C. I shut it down and tried again, but the CPU still fluctuates between boost and throttle. It seems like voltage regulation or thermal management is the issue. What should I do next?

Have you resolved the RAM issues? It’s not sensible to tackle another problem while dealing with one that affects this. You might want to use hwinfo64 to check for active limiters, and remember that when running at stock, the turbo limiter is usually enabled.

Mobo: Asus Prime Z390 P CPU is I5 9600k, RAM is Team group 16GB (2x8GB), RAM speed is 2400MHz (it doesn't run stable at its rated 3200MHz), GPU is MSI RX 2060 Ventus 6GB, PSU is Seasonic Focus 850W Gold. It passed 24 hours of MemTest86 but I'm not sure. I'm just checking the voltage and seeing how it behaves. It's acting like a headless chicken, skipping faults one after another. It should slow down automatically, but it's already at default settings. I was just verifying the voltage levels.

Compare this against your CPU’s cache capacity to assess whether stress comes from the CPU or RAM. I’m not suggesting higher CPU voltage, as that’s rare. Also, confirm your motherboard supports the latest BIOS—load default settings without changes to observe behavior.

Standard turbo settings can cause CPU throttling, particularly during Prime95 Small FFTs. HWiNFO will indicate the cause of throttling. Raise your turbo power limits in the BIOS.
