I experienced a corrupted drive on one of my laptops and decided to update the storage. I installed Windows 10 version 1607 fresh and attempted to activate the old key. I encountered an error preventing the key from updating, so I reached out to Microsoft support online. A representative stuck in a loop with the same message. Eventually, I called in via phone and spoke to an Indian support agent who barely understood what to do. She suggested troubleshooting or typing the code for ten minutes before hanging up. I’m wondering if there’s another method to reset the key, especially if I move to a different laptop with another drive. I’ve handled similar issues before but never faced such a severe problem where even Microsoft support struggled.

Click the "I don't have a key" option and it will handle authentication automatically once Windows is fully loaded.

That's what happened, but I still have the login confirmation and it doesn't let me fully adjust it.

Navigate to activation options, input your code, and then select "I can't activate"
