Well, we're currently waiting on 5000 series Threadripper, so in gaming the 5800X and such would be a lot faster. And yes, the 5800X is better than the 9900K, but the 9900K is still a good CPU. Do you only do gaming on this system, or do you also have some production workloads for semi-professional work? I would suggest a Ryzen 9 5900X, if you were to upgrade. Usually I say swapping to Ryzen is a good idea because of the upgrade path, but 5000 series ryzen is the last line of processors available on this socket, so you might want to wait until AMD releases a new platform (AM4+ or AM5)
