AMD to Intel and Windows 7 compatibility
Hey, it sounds like you're dealing with an older AMD system where the CPU wasn't replaceable. You're considering upgrading to a new hardware setup—motherboard and CPU—but you're worried about doing a clean Windows install since it's not a major concern for you. You were thinking of using your Windows 7 OEM disk and his existing code, but now you're concerned that using an Acer build might cause compatibility issues.
Phone activation might be possible, though a new setup could still work.
And this is one of major factors why is windows so much pirated and in most of cases you need to pay full price for windows
If there is a sticker on his prebuilt with a windows code then I would just call Microsoft and tell them the CPU died and you needed to replace the mobo and do over the phone activation.
