Hello everyone, I'm checking if anyone else observed unusual behavior in idle mode on Ryzen 3000 CPUs. I'm using a 3900X on an Asus Crosshair 8 with the latest BIOS update. From what I've seen, even without overclocking and with default BIOS settings (cleared CMOS, etc.), the Ryzen Balanced plan with PBO enabled keeps the CPU stable at 1.0V and a minimum clock speed of 3900MHz. Also, under stress conditions, I haven't noticed any core reaching 4.6GHz. Anyone else experiencing similar results? Thanks!

This performance level is achievable only with one dedicated core. With multiple cores (like your 12-core processor), you won't hit the full boost potential. Overclocking might help, but it doesn't ensure reaching that speed. Some users claim they didn't reach the maximum when running single-threaded tasks—der8auer observed this trend in his testing. I'm not including the part about idle CPU usage.

Verify whether Cool 'n Quiet remains active. I saw that after your previous session, it was turned off by default once you reset the settings. I’m not sure if adjusting the CPU frequency or voltage is relevant for idle mode on a Ryzen processor. I’ve set my CPU to 1.25V and 4.0GHz, and it indeed reduces power usage when idle. Changing the frequency didn’t seem to affect consumption either.

Hi Miniboys, thanks for the clarification. I should have been more precise. I was setting cinebench to run with only 2 threads, but I saw the core load shifting across different cores instead of staying focused on one. Likely, that indicates it’s not a reliable test for this scenario.

This aligns with typical Ryzen 3000 behavior I've observed. Even when manually adjusted for fixed voltage, it sometimes shifts focus between cores during demanding tasks. That’s what my experience has shown me.
