I believe this wasn't part of the discussion. I would have recommended a 2x16GB DDR5 setup if the Intel design included two 2x8GB units. The advice would likely stem from the absence of suitable 4x8GB kits at the time, and manufacturers generally advise against using multiple kits even for identical parts. For most builds, focusing on single versus dual rank isn't necessary.
