I’m using the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 with the stock cooler and an Asus B450 motherboard. After booting up, my CPU temperature was consistently high—around 60–65°C, sometimes reaching 70°C. I looked into CPU voltage effects and found it to be about 1.4V, which didn’t seem unusual. I also checked the thermal paste and noticed I’d accidentally touched it during installation. After removing the cooler, I’m not seeing any obvious issues, but I’m wondering if the paste might still be affecting temperatures. Are there other factors I should investigate?

All appears fine with the cooler connection. Make sure your CPU fan is connected to the CPU_FAN pin and verify the fan curve settings—perhaps reset the CMOS.

It feels quite typical when I first started using the 3900X. At idle, I was reading temperatures between 72-75°C. If I tried a manual voltage boost of 1.25-1.3V, it would push up to 1.5V in short bursts.

Consider refreshing the BIOS. This might work better for older boards and Ryzen 3rd generation systems.

Thanks for your quick responses! I confirmed the CPU fan is linked to the correct header and adjusted the BIOS settings to “normal.” After installing the cooler and reducing the core voltage, it made a noticeable difference—BIOS showed 50°C and Windows idle temps dropped. The case has ample airflow since it stands on my desk. I placed one fan at the back and another in front. Despite improvements, temperatures still feel elevated compared to others using the stock cooler (30-40°C at idle). Regarding BIOS updates: they seem to affect temperatures both inside the BIOS and when idle in Windows.

The issue only appeared when I did anything—no fans spinning, no windows open, minimal activity. Just the monitoring software should be active. It seems even idle tasks cause temperatures to rise into the 50s.

My cooling setup for reference. I now have 2 80mm noiseblocker fans drawing and ejecting air directly off the cooler and VRMs. My VRMs are remain an ice cold 40 degrees at all times. ]

To achieve full idleness, closing all background processes brings the temperature down to 42°C. That’s likely the lowest you’ll reach. I’ve observed the temperature fluctuating—rising from 40 to 50 and then slowly returning to 40 repeatedly. Initially, I assumed it was software-related, but I can hear the fan spinning faster when it increases. Is this typical behavior?

It seems typical for the stealth cooler you're using (model 3600) to behave this way. Ryzen power-saving features usually cause these fluctuations. Reducing voltage via offset often helps stabilize performance.
