AMD isn't the preferred choice for Fallout 4.
I just noticed some performance issues with recent benchmarks for Fallout 4. On the R9 390, it managed 1080p at 40 to 50 frames per second, then improved to around 60 fps more often than expected. Beyond 1080p, the numbers dropped significantly to about 35 to 40 fps. In one test, it matched a 970 model, which performed much better. On 1080p, the 970 maintained steady 60 fps, though it had occasional dips, but it never fell below 50 fps. At 1440p, the 970’s performance fell to roughly 45 to 55 fps—a notable change. If you’re using an NVIDIA graphics card, it seems fine. For those with AMD hardware, I’m curious how you feel about these frame rates or if you’ve experienced similar problems. Also, if you’re on an AMD card and played Fallout 4, do you notice these issues? Keep in mind the game is still new. Personally, I’m using an NVIDIA card, so this isn’t directly relevant to me, but it’s understandable why some might be concerned. I’m currently playing on Xbox and can’t share a link, but I can mention the benchmark video titled: “Fallout 4 PC 1080p60 Ultra: GTX 970 vs R9 370 Frame-Rate Test.” Please note, I’m not promoting this channel; I’m just sharing the name if needed. It's interesting I'm playing Fallout 4 on Ultra at 1050P. My PC with a 270X and 8320 only manages around 30FPS, usually hovering between 40-45FPS.
From major cities you're okay. Even with high mole rates, my FPS stays steady. The issue is the absence of a suitable driver for AMD users, and AMD has had time to get ready, so I don't think anything will come soon. I have to either skip the cities or stop playing because I picked the wrong graphics card. I won't repeat that error.
Running at 280X, but in the city there are many dips into 40-30 FPS. I’ve managed to escape several fights with inconsistent frame rates. AMD really needs better drivers.
