AMD graphics card problems and potential gigabyte B550 motherboard causes
i've been experiencing significant stuttering in valorant lately. i've looked for fixes and realized this issue seems widespread across games. everywhere i see people dealing with the same problem, and it appears many of them are using a b550 motherboard. i'm wondering if this is related to the bios, a manufacturing flaw, or an amd gpu problem. i need guidance since i expect smooth performance but currently see around 30 fps. my 1% lows drop to 10-30 fps. i'm warning others not to buy a gigabyte b550 without a fix.
update: the 7000 series gpus sometimes have sudden power spikes that cause fps drops. i'm getting a 1000w psu to prevent this, but if it doesn't help, i'll return.
update: i managed to resolve it by using the pcie x1_1 slot instead of x16. my setup includes a ryan 5 5600x, 7900xt gpu, gigabyte b550 board, and a 600w psu. performance is stable now: 1080p at 300-500 fps, 1% lows at 10-30 fps usage. clock speeds are normal, and lag spikes occur roughly every 100-400ms. it seems the issue isn't with my cpu, but possibly related to power delivery or gpu configuration.
Extreme CPU limitations and an undercapacitated power supply.
the 7900xt and cpu use minimal energy, the 7900 only draws 200-300 watts (noticeable in high-end gaming setups), while the cpu stays under 110 watts (roughly 60-70% of the power supply). the cpu won’t limit performance below 200fps, even with my monitor’s refresh rate, and it handles valorant smoothly. its clock speeds are just a bit below the 7900xt’s.
