some believe the am4 socket requires changes to securely attach the CPU to the socket, similar to Intel's design. After upgrading my cooler to a Corsair H100i Pro, I noticed the CPU stuck to the stock cooler's heatsink. Even after running the system for an hour, the thermal paste didn't improve the situation. A few people might find this frustrating, so I think it's worth discussing with manufacturers. Improving the CPU mounting could help prevent such issues, especially for new builders and experienced users alike.
I wonder if you removed the heat sink and took it out straight without first giving it a gentle tug. And if you did that, how forceful was the removal? I’m pretty sure holding over 1000 contacts should provide enough static friction to secure the processor unless the thermal paste was actually a strong adhesive.
I didn't remove the CPU tension arm; just took off the screws, moved it gently, and when it came out, the CPU was free.
or maybe the stock cooler had too much pre-applied thermal paste and stuck it onto the CPU, which seems to be happening now. If you're interested, I did apply my own paste this time—knowing that pre-applied stuff isn't very effective. I used a high-temperature Arctic paste instead.
offers specific benefits and drawbacks. when the CPU isn't seated in the socket, its pins tend to be more robust than those on an Intel motherboard and more resistant to damage compared to the pads at the bottom of Intel CPUs. certain aspects are advantageous while others are not. a comparable issue arises if you accidentally drop your Intel CPU into the socket.
I've tried placing six distinct coolers on and off an AM4 socket without encountering this issue. In the original Wraith, MX4, TG Kryo versions, and any AIOs with stock TIM, I've remained unaffected. My reasoning is they likely do this to keep costs down, making the main components more affordable.
