I own an ASUS Sabertooth that had been in my closet for five years and an 8350. It came with a case and the biggest Noctua CPU cooler, though I don’t know the exact model. It has space for RAM sticks, just fits my case a bit. I upgraded to Corsair 1600 32gigs and made some BIOS changes to make it ultra-fast or extreme under Digi Control. Set it to D.O.C.P. and achieved 4.9 stable at the default CPU voltage. Stress testing the CPU never exceeded 55°C. My question is whether I really need to raise the CPU voltage to reach 5.0 and above, and if it’s worth it. It’s an older setup, but I’m fine playing games with my GTX 1060, so I’ll keep it running until it stops working. Thanks for your time.
Power consumption and temperatures could increase significantly when you gradually raise the voltage in an attempt to reach 5GHz, and operating near the stability limit makes random crashes more likely if the room temperature rises even slightly. This isn't worth it for a small improvement.
I'd prefer 4.9GHz stability, as a .1GHz difference won't matter on the 8350.
