I'm struggling with persistent driver timeouts on my system. It's been a year now, and despite trying various fixes, nothing seems to help. One workaround is working, but it doesn't seem reliable. Timeouts seem to happen not only during gameplay but also when I'm browsing via web browser—especially on sites that use hardware acceleration like HeroForge or YouTube. Occasionally they occur without any clear cause. I've learned that AMD graphics cards can clash with Samsung G7 monitors, and I've tried several solutions for that, but none succeeded. The only relief comes from updating Adrenalin Software to version 2021.1116.1830.33299 and the driver to 21.30.23.04-211216a-376209C. This helps a bit, though it's not a long-term fix, particularly with outdated drivers. My system specs are: Cooler Master Cosmos II Super Tower chassis, AMD RYZEN 9 5950X @ ~4.5Ghz, Asus ROG Strix X570-E mainboard, Sapphire Toxic LE RX 6900XT, EVGA NU Audio Sound Card, G.SKILL Ripjaws V (32GB CL16), Noctua NH-D15 Chromax Black, CPU tower from Seasonic PRIME 1000w, PSU from Western Digital BLACK 10TB HDDs (two x2), and VR headset Valve Index.
Which driver version are you currently using? There was a period where some drivers caused hardware acceleration to fail, resulting in static display. It seems the problem was resolved in 22.10.3, though I haven’t verified it. I disabled hardware acceleration in all my apps (Chrome and Discord) and switched to 22.9.2, which fixed the issue. I have sufficient cores, so performance wasn’t affected whether it ran on GPU or CPU. I’m considering testing 22.10.3 now, but haven’t done so yet.
I'm currently on 21.30.23.04-211216a-376209C as it's not giving me too many issues. Anything newer and I immediately start running into timeouts again. I need hardware acceleration on as sites like HeroForge run like garbage without it. AMD said it's fixed the driver timeout issues however upon switching to the latest drivers for a time I ran into timeouts again so either AMD hasn't fixed it or there's something up with my specific setup which may be the case I know a few people with 6900XTs that don't have this issue.
