Desktop likely refers to a Samsung 860 Pro NVMe SSD, though verification may be needed; the server combines 16 Intel DC S4500 and D3 S4510 drives each 960GB.

Did you purchase the Intel components recently? I noticed one in your consideration.

They're available in pieces rather than all at once. For immediate needs, consider the Intel P4500 lineup on eBay. One 1TB enterprise NVMe drive costs around $100 and fits a U.2 size.

I've been doing that too. The U.2 PCIe card costs around $35 on Amazon, which really appeals to me.

Affordable LSI HBA cards compatible with NVMe storage options exist. For combining multiple units, consider stacking them effectively.

Just having the money would help. You know who I am—the person looking for affordable Cat6 cable.

It seems it's time to get ready for a lemonade stand.

It could be enjoyable. By the way, I restocked another $6 for Cat5e. My setup now reaches around 500 feet, bringing my total to $11.50.

More affordable than a 1000ft spool of bulk Cat5e riser cable. Please tell me how the cable feels when you hold it. I’ve worked with Cat5e that was so poorly made, the wires inside the plastic casing were shifting freely—uncomfortable.
