Thunderbolt is a brand owned by Intel, which limits the number of boards that can pay them to license it. Nonetheless, the Thunderbolt standard was shared with the USB community and evolved into USB 4. There are minor variations, but generally they work well together. The main advantage of the X870 model is that it supports USB 4 without requiring a fee from Intel. In short, how many X870 boards exist reflects how many support "Thunderbolt."
