Hi, just checking if switching to a new build would be beneficial. I'm currently using a GB250 B550 gaming rig with a Ryzen 5 3600X, 16GB DDR4, and a Corsair 550f power supply. I'm considering upgrading to a mix of new and used AM5 components from the UK. The options range from around £120 for an open box to higher-end models like the 7600X or 7800X, all priced near £450. I plan to run games at 1440p in Destiny 2 and some triple A titles, which is my main goal.

The 7600x represents a notable improvement over the 3600x, especially for gaming performance and should provide a substantial boost in overall speed, particularly at lower frame rates. I’ve tested it with an ASUS TUF B650 PLUS WIFI alongside my 7700x, and it has performed exceptionally well for nearly two years. At an average of 10 games at 1440p using an RTX 4090, the 7600x outperforms the AM4 5600x and 5800x, which are also faster than your 3600x. Source: Hardware unboxed.

@Hinjima has the right point. The 4090 performs significantly better than the cards you're considering, which means the gap in performance might not be as noticeable in benchmarks. It also offers a glimpse into what future GPU improvements could deliver.

I haven't heard much positive news about ASUS recently, but this motherboard is just a 120£ open box from a seller on eBay. I just won an action for a 3080 graphics card for 300£, so I’m considering that option. Upgrading to the 7000 series seems like a smart move, though I’m unsure about the 9000 series—I don’t want to spend around 300£ plus a CPU. As for the motherboard, I found an ASRock B650 Pro and a Gigabyte Aorus Eagle AX open box.

In your current setup they fit a 5700x3D and cost around 200£, matching the 7600 in games except for titles like Factorio that perform well with cache. The 7600 still stands out compared to that, while the 4070ti and 6950xt are solid choices under 450£.
